Cyclist’s deputy editor, James Spender, got a taste of America’s famed gravel scene this issue, when he ventured to Utah to ride in the Moab desert. According to his ride report, it’s a place like no other. We followed that up with a profile on a rider like no other, Annemiek van Vlenten, who looks back over a peerless career and looks ahead to what the future may hold, now that there’s no more races to win. She says she might want to party, so perhaps a trip to the Six Days of Ghent is in order – we visited the event and found it was as much about the festival as it was about the cycling.

Our Classic Climb this issue was David Millar’s favourite proving ground, the Rocacorba, and we also got some first-hand accounts from the riders of an event whose climbs make Rocacorba look like a molehill, the Atlas Mountain Race.

On the tech front, we looked into the dynamic world of turbo trainers to assess the state of a market turned on its head by Covid, tested Specialized’s latest Roubaix, Ridley’s new Falcn RS race bike, Sram’s most affordable wireless groupset and Sarto’s most unaffordable new all-road machine. It's saying something, but it could be the most expensive bike we’ve ever ridden. Find out what it was like by picking up Cyclist issue 148 today.
